What is PAS 110?
PAS 110 is the British Standard for quality digestate produced by anaerobic digestion. It sets requirements for feedstock inputs, process control, pasteurisation, sampling and contaminant limits, and works alongside HACCP planning to prove that digestate is safe, consistent and fit to sell as a biofertiliser rather than be classed as waste.

PAS 110 is the British Standard for quality digestate. Certification lets you market digestate as a biofertiliser product rather than manage it as waste, opening up agricultural and other markets, supporting revenue and reducing the regulatory burden of waste permitting.

A PAS 110 consultant reviews your site against the standard, develops your HACCP plan and QMS, sets up monitoring and sampling procedures, runs internal audits, and liaises with your certification body through initial certification and recertification.

PAS 110 is the quality standard for digestate itself. HACCP is the risk based methodology used to identify and control hazards across your feedstock, process and output, and it is a core requirement built into every PAS 110 quality management system.

In October 2025 the Environment Agency replaced the Anaerobic Digestate Quality Protocol (ADQP) with the Anaerobic Digestate Resource Framework (ADRF) in England. It tightens plastics limits, introduces a clearer End of Waste test, and ties certification more closely to the Biofertiliser Certification Scheme.

Timescales depend on your starting position, but most sites need several months to close gaps, build documentation, run monitoring and complete an external audit. Sites with an established QMS and HACCP plan can move faster than those starting from scratch.
